Kotaku sources state that Anthem will receive a complete overhaul, with major systems such as the mission structure, the loot and the world being overhauled. The sources speak of names such as ‘Anthem 2.0’ and ‘Anthem Next’.

It was already known that updates would take longer, but that they would be so drastic, not yet. In addition, the sources state that all updates may be delivered in such a large package that they do not rule out the release of a completely new game. No doubt it will cost less or even nothing for those who already own Anthem. However, it is also possible that the updates will come in the form of seasons, as was stated earlier and is also not excluded with this message.

In addition to the mission structure, loot and world, quests, social aspects and the difficulty progression will also be changed, according to the report. Above all, developer BioWare seems to be at the drawing board a lot and it is really only clear that the changes will be far-reaching, but not exactly what they will be. Development will be in the hands of both BioWare Edmonton, which developed the base game, and BioWare Austin, which would handle the game-as-a-service development after release.

Anthem wouldn’t be the first game to straighten things out after a bad start. No Man’s Sky is another example of a game that many believed to have disappointed at the time of its release, yet managed to gain a fan base over a three-year period during which the creator released several major updates to the game.

Anthem came out in February for the PS4, Xbox One and Windows. The game has been criticized for technical issues, poor systems performance, uninspired quests and uninteresting dialogue, although many reviewers also felt the game had potential. Since its release, the main producer of the game has left and Kotaku has also released an extensive piece highlighting Anthem’s troubled development period.
