Anonabox shows three new privacy routers

Anonabox shows three new routers that, among other things, use Tor to guarantee the online privacy of users. The devices can be ordered in advance and cost between 80 and 110 euros.

Anonabox releases the routers under the names Fawkes, Tunneler and Pro. The small boxes are all equipped with USB and Ethernet ports, and are easy to carry. In addition, the devices are equipped with a wireless Internet connection. The three models are tailored to different uses.

For example, only the Fawkes and Pro versions have a built-in Tor client. The Tunneler is intended for use with a VPN and comes standard with HideMyAss’ VPN service. The Fawkes in turn is only intended for use with Tor and lacks support for vpn. The Pro version combines the features of the other two devices and offers some extras on top, such as support for USB file sharing and for a web server to host .onion web pages. The routers that support Tor should automatically establish an anonymous network connection within 90 seconds, the maker says.

Anonabox came under negative scrutiny in 2014 when it was accused of scamming. The router would not be secure, nor would the hardware be made by the company itself. This eventually led to the cancellation of the company’s Kickstarter campaign. Finally, Anonabox started another crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. The company has now announced that it has recently audited the devices and that more details will be revealed at CES.

The Tunneler version of Anonabox
