Players of the Ubisoft game Anno 2070 complain that the strategy game does not want to start. The DRM used would prevent players from accessing Ubisoft’s servers. According to Ubisoft, part of the problem has since been fixed.

A Ubisoft employee has said on the company’s official forum that players should now be able to restart the offline portion of the game, allowing the single player game modes to be accessible again. There is no solution yet for the game modes played online. It concerns an error message in Uplay, which may make it impossible to start Anno 2070, including the single player part.

Ubisoft uses outdated drm called Tages for Anno 2070 and according to several players this drm is the cause of the problems. On Steam, since the end of January, there have been all kinds of complaints from players about how the DRM prevents players from accessing Ubisoft’s servers. In some reviews on Steam, players report that the game cannot be installed. According to them, the game can be played with the illegal version.

In 2012, Ubisoft confirmed that Tages can force the game to be reactivated after hardware changes such as using a new graphics card. Ubisoft confirmed this was not a bug and reported that not many players would face a reactivation. Anno 2070 was released in November 2011.
