Android Wear gets support for GPS and Bluetooth headsets

Google will update its Android Wear operating system for smartwatches, after which it will be possible to connect a bluetooth headset. The operating system also supports GPS from then on.

Until now, Android Wear used the location determination of the paired phone, but later this year a new software update will be released that will let the operating system use the GPS chip of the watch itself if it is present, Cnet has learned. In addition, bluetooth headsets will soon be able to be connected, so that a user can listen to music while running, for example, without having to take his phone with him.

In addition, developers will soon be able to create their own watch faces for the Wear, which can then be distributed via the Play Store. For example, a developer could create a watch face for hikers that shows the number of miles walked alongside the time.

That functionality is not yet present in a software update coming this week; which is intended to improve navigation as well as voice commands.
