The developers of VLC have officially released the Android version of the media player. Version 1.0 should bring some improvements over the beta. The test version of the app was already placed in the Play Store in July 2012.

A number of bugs have been fixed by the developers in the official release, as described in the notes. These include issues such as crashes that occurred on devices running Android Lollipop or devices with processors based on the ARMv8 architecture, such as chips with Cortex-A57 or Cortex-A53 cores. The developers also talk about a new interface and a number of improved features. However, nothing is mentioned about Chromecast support yet.

The arrival of an official VLC app for Android has been a long time coming. The developers have already announced the media player for the platform at the end of 2010. However, the test version only appeared in 2012. At the time, it was a version that was unsuitable for daily use. Over the years, the media player has been further developed and eventually the development team found the app good enough after 2.5 years to end the test phase.
