Android N includes option to customize tone and tempo voice commands
Google has added a feature to the developer version of Android N that allows users to adjust the pitch and pace at which the software ‘talks’. The new options should work for any language.
Android Police discovered the ability to customize Android’s text-to-speech engine. The new feature is in the second release of the developer version of Android N, which Google recently released. In the settings, users can set whether they want the engine’s pronunciations to be faster or slower. The pitch, higher or lower, can also be adjusted.
Earlier it appeared that in the second release of Android N it is possible to add shortcuts to the launcher. This makes it possible, for example, to create a shortcut for ‘navigate home’ via a map application such as Google Maps. There is also support for the Vulkan API and there are new emojis. In the first developer release there was already multi-window support to be able to show multiple apps on the screen at the same time. This is comparable to a feature that Samsung has had in its Android devices for quite some time.
Not all details are known about Android N yet. It is likely that Google will provide more information about the new version of its mobile operating system during its I/O conference next month. Android N will probably be released in the fall, but in the meantime, three new preview versions have to be released.
