Android may be able to record and forward conversations

Google seems to be planning to introduce a feature in Android where phone calls can be recorded. It should also be possible to forward incoming calls to another SIM card.

The new features have not been announced by Google, but the plans can be deduced from messages posted on an Android development platform, XDA Developers discovered. One of the new call functions is a possibility, in a smartphone with dual SIM, to forward an incoming call from one SIM card to another. This could be useful, for example, in case one of the SIM cards in the smartphone is not switched on.

In addition, Google is considering making phone call recording possible in a future version of Android. An API should be made available for this, but Google states that it has yet to work out due to privacy and security concerns. As a result, it is not yet known when the recording functionality should be available. Google has previously blocked possibilities to record conversations in Android.

It is not yet clear when the new call functions should be released, although it is known that they will not end up in Android version Q; should Google go ahead with the plans, the features will appear in a future version of Android.
