Google probably plans to start rolling out the new Android version Marshmallow on October 5. The Nexus 4, 2012 Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 are reportedly falling by the wayside when it comes to a software update.

Android Police has been given the date of October 5 from its sources. The Android fan site is known to have good contacts at Google, and this date was also mentioned earlier by a telecom provider. The rollout is likely to start worldwide immediately, but it is common for the software to take a few weeks to reach everyone.

The likely October 5 rollout is shortly after Google holds its own event. This event, which will be held on Tuesday, is likely to be used to announce the new Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, made by Huawei and LG respectively. These devices come standard with Android Marshmallow.

According to the sources, the new Android software is coming to the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, 2013 Nexus 7 and Nexus 9. That means the Nexus 4, 2012 Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 will not get an update. Google probably thinks these devices are too old to develop software for them.

Google announced Android Marshmallow, which carries version number 6.0, some time ago. The software is already available to developers in the form of a test version. One of the most important new features is control over permissions that applications have; these are now adjustable per app.
