Android Go 11 runs on budget smartphones with up to 2GB and starts apps faster
Google has announced the Go Edition of Android 11, intended for budget smartphones. The mobile operating system runs on smartphones with up to 2GB of ram and could launch apps 20 percent faster than Android Go 10.
The Go version of Android 11 will be available for smartphones with a maximum of 2GB ram, where the Go Edition of Android 10 can be combined with a maximum of 1.5GB ram. This allows the operating system to reserve 270MB of additional RAM to allow more apps to run in the background. Google is talking about three to four additional apps. In addition, apps boot up to 20 percent faster on Android Go 11 than on Go 10, Google claims, by pre-fetching app data. Smartphones that have 2GB of ram also get 900MB of extra free storage space, that is the promise.
The Go operating system also has new features that Android 11 also offers, such as combining conversations from different apps in the notification section. There are also new privacy features, such as managing permission per app for access to sensors, which will be reset over time. Android Go 11 supports gesture control and users can place sensitive files in folders protected by PIN access.
Android Go 11 will be available next month. Google announced the Go Edition of Android in 2017. This is a lightweight version of Android, intended for budget smartphones and mainly aimed at use in emerging countries. The software includes data-saving functions.
