Code has surfaced online indicating that Google is equipping the successor to its Pixel phones with the Snapdragon 835-soc. Current Pixel phones have a Snapdragon 821, a soc that appeared just before the Pixels came out last fall.

Now it seems that Google will release phones in the fall with a soc that is already in phones this spring. The commits page, first noticed by the Chinese site Juggly, lists the code names of the Pixels’ likely successors. The page mentions the MSM8998, the type number that Qualcomm uses for the Snapdragon 835.

The code names are Taimen, Walleye and Muskie, all three big fish. The Walleye and Muskie are the likely successors to the Pixel phones, while the Taimen is unknown what exactly it will be.

There have been rumors about the new Pixels for months. Google has already confirmed that it will also release smartphones again this fall, but the internet company has not said anything about specifications or features of the phones.
