Android app for Gmail 5.0 supports Outlook.com and Yahoo accounts – update
Users can use the Android app for Gmail 5.0 not only for Gmail, but also to manage their mailboxes for Yahoo and Outlook.com. By swiping, users can easily switch email accounts.
The support is apparent from a video that Android Police publishes. The images show how a user switches email accounts by simply swiping in the top part of the screen. The support for Yahoo and Outlook.com is explicitly mentioned, but imap and Exchange accounts are also supported.
With the Gmail 5.0, Google also brings its minimalist Material Design design to the Android app. The company will probably only release the app with the final release of Android 5.0 Lollipop.
The unofficial GoogleSystem blog also points out that inbox.google.com has been added to Gmail’s SSL certificate. It’s unclear what Google will use inbox.google.com for, but the site wonders if Yahoo and Outlook.com support has anything to do with it. The webmail service for Gmail could then be used as an online client for multiple accounts.
Update, 7 p.m. – Imap and Exchange are also supported, according to The Verge. The article has been adapted accordingly.
