Analysts: iPhone deliveries fell by nearly a quarter
Deliveries of iPhones have fallen by almost a quarter in recent months compared to last year. Analysts estimate this based on Apple’s quarterly figures. Apple itself has stopped displaying deliveries in its own figures.
Strategy Analytics claims Apple shipped 43.1 million iPhones, Canalys estimates there were 40.2 million and IDC puts it at 36.4 million. With this SA thinks that the decrease is 17 percent, Canalys that the decrease is around 23 percent, IDC 30 percent. The fourth analyst firm that monitors the smartphone market, Gartner, has not yet published any figures. Apple itself only reports sales from iPhones, but refuses to say how many phones it has delivered. The company closed down six months ago.
Although the figures differ considerably at the level of detail, they all show the same trends. Apple has the biggest drop and market leader Samsung loses around 9 percent. Huawei gains 50 percent compared to a year ago and will surpass competitor Samsung in the foreseeable future with this growth rate. Xiaomi loses slightly, while Oppo remains the same. The market as a whole is declining.
Analysts agree that Apple is having a hard time, partly due to the trend that users are sticking to devices for longer. According to them, buyers of high-end smartphones might wait for models with 5G or foldable screens, leaving them with no device to buy in the first months of the year.
