Significantly more smartwatches were sold worldwide in the quarter than in the same period last year; this is an increase of 67 percent to about 10 million smart watches shipped worldwide.

That’s according to market analyst Strategy Analytics based on a study it conducted on the smartwatch market. Manufacturers shipped about 10 million smartwatches in the quarter, up from 6 million in the same period last year, Strategy Analytics estimates. The manufacturers themselves have not released their precise sales figures publicly. The analyst also only counted sales of smartwatches, and not of other wearables such as fitness trackers and smart bracelets. As a result, Xiaomi, for example, does not appear in the list.

The undisputed market leader is Apple, which recently released the fourth generation of its Watch. In the past quarter, a total of 4.5 million units of the Apple Watch were sold. Fitbit is number two, with approximately 1.5 million wearables sold. The Versa in particular would sell well. In third place is Samsung, with 1.1 million wearables sold, with the Galaxy Watch in particular doing well. This almost doubles sales compared to the same quarter last year.

Where most manufacturers show great growth in sales, Garmin is having a harder time. It delivered 0.8 million units in the past quarter, which is slightly more than the 0.6 million of the same quarter last year. Other manufacturers delivered 2.1 million units in total, which is considerably more than last year’s 1.2 million.
