The Samsung Galaxy A50 was by some distance the smartphone that providers and retailers in Europe bought the most in recent months. The South Korean manufacturer increased its market share in Europe to more than 40 percent.

The most purchased smartphone after the Galaxy A50 with 3.2 million copies was the Galaxy A40 with 2.2 million copies. The third place went to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 with 2 million copies, Canalys writes. This is followed by the Galaxy A20e and in fifth place the first Apple smartphone: the iPhone XR. These are figures from this spring in European countries.

Samsung increased its market share and delivered a total of more than eighteen million smartphones, according to the analyst firm. Huawei was affected by the US trade ban and delivered slightly fewer smartphones. The Chinese manufacturer retained the second place, because number three, Apple, also lost ground. Xiaomi is in fourth place and now has almost ten percent of the market.

The South Korean manufacturer has changed course this year with the introduction of many new models in its Galaxy A series, including features such as fast charging, fingerprint scanners behind the screen and large batteries. According to Canalys, Samsung has also positioned itself towards providers and retailers as a stable alternative to Huawei. Total smartphone shipments in Europe were virtually flat from a year ago, Canalys said.
