Analyst Kuo: iPhone SE 2 with A13-soc to be released in Q1 2020
The analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, known for his Apple reports, claims that the iPhone SE 2 will appear in the first quarter of 2020. The smartphone would have a housing like that of the iPhone 8 with an A13 soc internally.
Apple would provide the iPhone SE 2 of its latest soc generation with the A13. It is a 7nm chip with two fast cores and four economical, which is also in the iPhone 11 models. Apple would like to combine the A13 with 3GB of ram, writes 9to5Mac based on the reports of Ming-Chi Kuo. The claims are in line with previous rumors, including Bloomberg. They also spoke of the presence of the Touch ID fingerprint scanner.
With the choice for the iPhone 8 housing, the SE 2 would not be as compact a smartphone as its predecessor. The iPhone 8 has a 4.7″ screen versus 4 inches for the iPhone SE. With the smartphone, Apple would like to target iPhone 6 users who want to upgrade but don’t need the latest features.
If those users don’t buy a new iPhone, they’ll miss the upgrade to iOS 13 and with it services like Apple Arcade. The iOS 13 software is not available for iPhone 6 and earlier models.
According to Kuo, the SE 2 will be cheaper than current iPhones in the range. Currently that is the iPhone 8 with a suggested retail price of 539 euros. That smartphone will disappear with the arrival of the SE 2, it is expected. The iPhone SE cost 489 euros for the 16GB version when it was released in 2016.
