Analyst Kuo expects Apple to release iPhone without Lightning port in 2021

The usually well-informed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects Apple to ship its most high-end iPhone in 2021 without a Lightning port. The smartphone would therefore function completely wirelessly.

Ming-Chi Kuo expresses his expectation in a document that MacRumors managed to get his hands on. The analyst is known for being well aware of Apple’s plans and regularly releases accurate information about upcoming Apple products. According to him, the arrival of a top model without Lightning port should provide more differentiation in the line-up.

Also in 2021, an iPhone SE2 Plus with a full-screen design with 5.5″ or 6.1″ screen is due. That smartphone would have thin screen edges and would not have Face ID, but would have Touch ID integrated into the on/off button. If the rumor is correct, it seems that Apple will regularly announce new SE models in the first half of the year. Last week, analysts at JPMorgan already reported that they expect Apple to announce new iPhone models every six months.

Next year, according to rumors, a new iPhone SE with 4.7 “LCD and new iPhones with OLED screens of 5.4, 6.1 and 6.7 inches. The latter would have a metal frame like the iPhone 4.
