The best-selling Android smartphone in recent months is the Oppo R9s. That is what analyst firm Strategy Analytics claims. The top of the list of all smartphones is Apple’s iPhone 7, followed by the iPhone 7 Plus from the same manufacturer.

Together, the top five accounted for 16 percent of phone sales in the first quarter of 2017, according to figures from Strategy Analytics. The analyst firm makes estimates based on manufacturer figures, sales figures provided by retailers and other indications of sales numbers.

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus occupy spots one and two, but the cheaper iPhone SE is missing from the list. The SE came out in the spring of 2016 and has a significantly lower price than the two newer phones. The Oppo R9s is a phone from the Chinese manufacturer that costs around four hundred euros, with a Snapdragon 625-soc, a 5.5 “OLED screen and a sixteen-megapixel camera on the front and back. The model with metal housing is especially popular in China and india.

Numbers four and five on the list are the 2016 Samsung Galaxy J3 and J5, the two cheapest new Android models from Samsung. The 2016 J series has a plastic housing with a metal edge and the phones also have OLED screens. The prices of the phones are under two hundred euros.

Manufacturers have not commented on the list and never disclose delivery figures for individual models. It is therefore unclear to what extent the list is correct. Many analyst firms are often close with their estimates of total deliveries.
