According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple plans to improve the wide-angle camera in its next generation of iPhones. The iPhone 13 would get a wide-angle camera consisting of a lens with six elements and an aperture of f / 1.8.

MacRumors claims this, based on an analysis provided by Kuo. The analyst is known for being well versed when it comes to Apple’s plans for upcoming iPhones. The expectation is that the iPhone 13 will retain the same dimensions compared to the iPhone 12, and that the improvements are mainly in the camera. For example, the lens of the wide-angle camera would be made up of six elements and an aperture of f / 1.8. The current iPhone 12 has a lens made up of five elements with an aperture of f / 2.4.

According to the analyst, the wide-angle camera on the iPhone 13 will also have the option of autofocus. The current iPhone 12 has a wide-angle camera that has a fixed focus distance.

Kuo previously announced that Apple will release iPhones with a periscopic lens in 2022, presumably made by the South Korean company Semco. Periscopic lenses allow for a wider ‘zoom’ range and are already included in many high-end Android smartphones.
