Analyst agency: Apple surpasses Xiaomi and is the leader in wearables
Apple now supplies more copies of its Watch than Xiaomi does of its Mi Band fitness trackers. That claims analyst firm Canalys. Apple is now the market leader in wearables, followed by Xiaomi and Fitbit.
Apple shipped 3.9 million units of its Apple Watch in July, August and September, 800,000 of which were 4G, according to Canalys figures. That is a relatively high number, because the 4g version of the Apple Watch only came out on September 22, is available in a limited number of countries and also requires a subscription with a provider that supports the 4g Watch.
Xiaomi is now number two worldwide, followed by Fitbit. Huawei and Samsung complete the top five, with less than half a million units each delivered. Canalys notes that of the top five, only Huawei uses an open smartwatch platform. The rest has the software on its wearables under its own management.
The wearables market grew 0.2 percent from the previous quarter. In addition, the demand for smartwatches grew, while the demand for fitness trackers decreased, according to the analyst firm.
