Americans get up to $400 back over Nexus 6P bootloop problem
Americans can get up to $400 back from Google and Huawei over the bootloop issue with the 2015 Nexus 6P, according to a settlement the two companies have reached over a class-action lawsuit in the United States.
US users who have had the bootloop problem on the Huawei-made Google phone Nexus 6P will receive a refund of $325, while the problem that the phone turns itself off unexpectedly will be refunded for $150. If users can prove they’ve had both issues, they’ll be refunded $400, according to the settlement that requires users to fill out a comprehensive form. In the absence of documentation of the issues, users could be refunded $75, The Verge reports.
Google and Huawei are putting a total of nearly 10 million dollars in the settlement, although the costs for lawyers and other legal costs have yet to be deducted. It is unknown how many consumers will be eligible for the settlement. The case has been ongoing since 2017.
It’s not the first time Nexus owners have been able to get cash back due to ongoing issues. That also happened with the Nexus 5X, which came out at the same time as the Nexus 6P. That happened as part of a larger settlement around LG smartphones. LG makes the Nexus 5X. In a class-action case, consumers in a group contract one or more companies.
