American company introduces voltage meter for USB-C port
The American company Satechi has introduced a measuring device that allows users to check the voltage and current of USB-C ports, among other things. For example, the meter can be placed between a device and a USB-C port.
For example, the meter is able to provide insight into voltage and current. The device is offered on the Satechi site for a price of thirty dollars, converted about 28 euros. For example, by hanging the device between a USB-C device and a laptop, it is possible to gain live insight into the corresponding values. The meter has a range between 4V and 20V, the product page is unclear about the other specs.
A Google study found that various third-party USB-C cables could pose a risk when charging laptops. The reason for this is that they do not meet the applicable specifications. Using the wrong cable can damage a charger, for example. With the Satechi device, for example, it would be possible to detect deviating values and prevent damage.
