AMD working on bios update with uefi support for Radeon VII

AMD is working on a ‘one-click bios update’ for the Radeon VII video card. It currently does not support uefi, so Windows Secure Boot will not work and may take longer to start.

TechPowerup discovered the lack of uefi support and was then told by AMD that a fix is on the way. ASRock itself already put a BIOS update with UEFI support for its Radeon VII card online on February 1.

Since all Radeon VII cards released so far adhere to the reference design, the ASRock bios should be able to be manually flashed to other cards. AMD’s upcoming update promises to be universal and easier to perform, “with a single click,” according to the manufacturer.

Due to the lack of uefi support, the motherboard must enable its compatibility support module at boot time. This causes it to take a little longer to start, but Secure Boot won’t work through it either. That is protection, through digital signature, against threats such as firmware rootkits.
