AMD has announced five new R-series embedded socs. The chips feature Excavator cores, 3rd-generation Graphics Core Next GPUs, and support for both DDR3 and DDR4 memory.

With the embedded socs, AMD focuses on applications for game machines such as slot machines, advertising display, visual medical systems, storage, communication and networking. The R series, codenamed Merlin Falcon, consists of five socs: two dualcore and three quadcore. Three socs will be equipped with successively R7, R6 and R5 GPUs.

They also support ddr3 memory with a throughput of up to 2133MT/s and ddr4 with a data rate of 2400MT/s. In addition, the chips offer support for PCI-E 3.0, USB 3.0, GPIO, i2c, i2s and UART. The tdp is configurable from 12W to 35W with the quad-cores and a maximum of 15W with the dual-cores.
