AMD to release third-generation Threadripper processors this year
AMD will release a third generation of its Threadripper processors in 2019. This is evident from a presentation given to investors. No details about the CPUs are known yet, nor is it clear when they will be released.
A slide depicting the arrival of the third Threadripper generation has been put online by Tom’s Hardware. It is the first time that AMD itself says something about new Hedt CPUs. The company previously announced the third-generation Ryzen processors. They should be released by the middle of this year.
The first generation of Threadripper CPUs came out in August 2017 and the second generation followed a year later. It seems likely that the third generation will be released around the same period this year. Like the Epyc 2 server processors and the upcoming third-generation Ryzen CPUs, the new Threadrippers are likely to be based on the Zen 2 architecture, with CPU chiplets built at 7nm.
