AMD to officially give 300-series motherboards Ryzen 5000 support
AMD is working on an Agesa update for motherboards with the A320, B350 and X370 chipsets, which will add official support for the Ryzen 5000 processors. This allows five-year-old motherboards to work with the latest AMD processors.
The first Ryzen 5000 processors were introduced at the end of 2020. AMD initially planned to require a new B550 or X570 motherboard, but after the commotion AMD quickly decided to make the new processors work in B450 and X470 boards. So now the 300 series chipsets are added, at least insofar as motherboard manufacturers are still willing to develop updates for their older products.
AMD speaks of a ‘selective beta bios’ based on Agesa 1.2.0.7, which will be released in the course of April and May. This Agesa version also includes a fix for the hiccups that some users experience when using the processors’ firmware TPM.
Tech marketer Robert Hallock announced the update’s arrival as part of AMD’s spring announcement, which also included a release date for the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and the arrival of six new cheaper Ryzens. Also all these new models will work with Agesa 1.2.0.7 on 300 series motherboards.
