AMD reveals all the details of Radeon Pro Duo
AMD has officially introduced the Radeon Pro Duo video card with two Fiji GPUs and with that all specifications are now known. AMD has also published benchmarks, in which the manufacturer compares its new top model against its own R9 295X and the Titan X from Nvidia.
In March AMD presented the Radeon Pro Duo, but then the manufacturer did not release all technical details. More information recently leaked out about the video card and now that the official introduction is behind us, it appears to be correct. The Radeon Pro Duo is equipped with two full Fiji XT GPUs, with a clock speed of up to 1000MHz. That corresponds to the speed of the Radeon R9 Nano and is 50MHz slower per GPU than the R9 Fury X.
According to AMD, the dual-gpu card has a typical board power of 350 watts, exactly twice the tbp of the R9 Nano. That card has to be clocked down regularly to stay within the tbp of 175W. The Radeon Pro Duo also has three 8-pin connectors; this means that the video card can theoretically be provided with a maximum of 525W.
The video card is covered with an aluminum plate and has logos illuminated with LEDs. Like the Fury X, the Pro Duo is water-cooled, with a radiator that has a 120mm fan. Manufacturers who bring a Radeon Pro Duo to the market will probably make little changes to the design. Only the logo on the fan will be different. EK Waterblocks has now announced a water block that allows the Pro Duo to be placed in a system with customloop water cooling.
According to AMD, the Radeon Pro Duo is one and a half times faster than Nvidia’s fastest video card: the GeForce GTX Titan X. However, that is a card with one GPU. The Pro Duo is 1.3 times faster than the Radeon R9 295X2, AMD’s previous dual-GPU card. The manufacturer reinforces the claims by showing benchmarks of various games in 4k resolution. As a test system, AMD used a computer with Intel Core i7 5960X processor and 16GB of RAM. The last slide below shows the exact settings and scores per game.
AMD lists a suggested retail price of $1499 for the Radeon Pro Duo. Converted including VAT, that is about 1607 euros. As far as we know, at least Sapphire and XFX come with a Radeon Pro Duo card. Sapphire announced its copy on Tuesday, photos of the XFX variant have already appeared online.
