AMD releases details of new Athlon X2 and X4 processors
AMD has put the specifications of three new Athlon CPUs on its site. It concerns two quad-cores and a dual-core that are all based on Kaveri, but unlike the apu versions, they do not have a gpu.
The three new Athlons for the FM2+ platform are produced at 28nm and contain Steamroller CPU cores. There are two of the Athlon X2 450, which run at 3.5GHz as standard and at a maximum of 3.9GHz. There is 1MB L2 cache and the tdp is 65W.
The Athlon X 840 and 860K are quad-cores and the K designation indicates that the multiplier is unlocked for overclocking capabilities on this model. These CPUs contain 4MB L2 cache. The standard clock speed of the X4 840 is 3.1GHz and much lower than that of the X4 860K and the TDP is also 65W lower than the 95W that the X4 860K uses.
AMD makes no mention of support for configurable TDPs, like the Kaveri APUs on which the Athlons are based. The prices for the Athlons are not yet known.
