AMD reboots GPUOpen open source platform with new FidelityFX effects
AMD gives the GPUOpen platform a reboot. On its website, the hardware manufacturer offers open source tools and other supplies for game developers. In addition to a new look, there will also be a new toolkit on the site.
GPUOpen is a platform first established by AMD in 2016. The site includes tools, documentation, libraries, and SDKs that allow developers to build games for Radeon GPUs. The software is free to use under an open license.
AMD says it is restarting the website with, among other things, a new look. The site has been built from scratch, mainly to make it easier for developers to find the tools they are looking for. There are also new sections, such as blog posts, presentations and more extensive tutorials on the site.
AMD has also put four new effects online for the FidelityFX toolkit. It was introduced last year. AMD now adds four effects: Stochastic Screen Space Reflections, Combined Adaptive Compute Ambient Occlusion, Luminance Preserving Mapper and Single Pass Downsampler. They can show reflections of objects, calculate light and shadows, add HDR and a wider color spectrum for games, and generate mipmaps faster.
