AMD Radeon Super Resolution for ‘Virtually All Games’ Coming Q1
AMD announces Radeon Super Resolution: a variant of FidelityFX Super Resolution that would work in almost all games. AMD will release Radeon drivers with RSR support in the first quarter of this year.
According to AMD, RSR is based on the FSR technology, but the new variant can be applied to games without having to be specifically adapted for it. Current FSR technique must be implemented by developers.
It is not clear to what extent the RSR technique deviates from or corresponds to FSR. Also, little is known about the possible performance gains. AMD shows an example with Warframe in its CES presentation. RSR would improve performance by 1.7x over native 4k in that game if RSR is used to upscale 1440p to a 4k resolution.
RSR will only be available for Radeon video cards, as the technology is part of the Radeon Adrenaline software for AMD video cards. FSR can also be used in combination with Nvidia video cards.
