AMD Radeon PRO W7000 workstation GPUs get RDNA 3 chip and up to 48GB GDDR6

AMD will release its first Radeon PRO workstation graphics cards with an RDNA 3 GPU this quarter. The video cards are therefore based on the same architecture as the RX 7000 series, but have specific functions for professionals and more memory with ECC support.

AMD is initially introducing two W7000 video cards: the Radeon PRO W7900 and Radeon PRO W7800. The former is based on the existing Radeon RX 7900 XTX, which became available to consumers late last year. The video card has a Navi 31 GPU with 96 compute units. This gives it a total of 6144 stream processors. The Radeon PRO W7900 has 48GB of GDDR6 memory with support for error-correcting code. Its RX 7900 XTX counterpart has 24GB of memory without ecc. According to AMD, the Radeon Pro video card offers 61Tflops of fp32 computing power and has a total board power of 295W.

The Radeon PRO W7800 in turn has an RDNA 3 GPU with 70 cu’s, which amounts to 4480 stream processors. The W7800 is therefore a completely new product; AMD has not yet released a similar consumer video card in its Radeon RX 7000 series. The W7800 has 32GB of GDDR6 memory, also with ECC support. The video card offers 45Tflops of fp32 computing power and has a tbp of 260W.

The video cards also have the new features that AMD introduced with its RDNA 3 architecture. For example, in addition to a primary compute die, both video cards have various memory chipsets with additional Infinity Cache. The cards also have a new Dual Media Engine, with support for AV1 encoding at up to 8k at 60fps. The video cards also support DisplayPort 2.1 and can therefore handle 8k60 displays without compression. The GPU is produced on TSMC’s 5nm process; the memory chiplets are made at 6nm.

AMD will release its Radeon PRO W7000 video cards this quarter. However, the company does not share a concrete release date. The Radeon PRO W7900 has a suggested retail price of $3,999. The W7800 will cost $2499. The video cards are intended for professionals and companies.
