AMD Radeon HD 7990 coming in the second half of July
AMD is reportedly going to release the new top model in its Radeon video card line later this month. The HD 7990 should contain two Tahiti XT GPUs, which are connected to at least six gigabytes of gddr5 video memory.
Currently, samples of the HD 7990 are being produced with a view to an introduction in mid-July, VR-Zone writes. The video card is codenamed New Zealand and is based on the same Tahiti XT GPU that is also used in the HD 7970, although there are two pieces in the HD 7990. The video card has been on AMD’s roadmap since December 2011, but unlike Nvidia’s GTX 690, it has still not been released.
Information about the clock speeds of the upcoming top model came out a few months ago; both gpus would be clocked at 825MHz. That is 75MHz lower than the single GPU in the HD 7970. In addition, the card would have at least 6GB GDDR5 video memory and special editions could even be equipped with 12GB.
For the rest, the specifications of the GPU would remain the same; the two chips are said to have 2048 shaders, 128 texture units and 32 rops each. It is not yet known what the HD 7990 should cost.
