AMD: R9 Fury X cooler patent infringement has not been determined

AMD has responded to Asetek’s claim that the Radeon Fury X graphics card cooler infringes patents related to water coolers. According to AMD, a previous case has not established that the Cooler Master cooler of the Fury X is infringing.

AMD gave Gamers Nexus a statement on the claims of patent infringement. “We are aware that Asetek has sued Cooler Master,” AMD said. “We refer to Cooler Master for the details of the trial, but we understand that the jury in this case has not ruled that the Cooler Master heatsink currently in the Radeon Fury X infringes Asetek patents.”

Strictly speaking, that is correct, Gamers Nexus concludes, since the judgment did not mention the R9 Fury X. Asetek is of the opinion that it is indeed a Cooler Master cooler that is infringing and has therefore expanded the patent case. On Monday it turned out that Asetek wants a sales stop for the AMD Fury X. In addition, a GTX 980 from Gigabyte with water cooler from Cooler Master must also be taken off the market, Asetek believes.

In September, Asetek won the patent lawsuit from CMI, part of Cooler Master, over the use of water cooler technology that Asetek has patented.
