AMD puts possible hint to RX 6000 video cards in Fortnite folder
AMD appears to have released a teaser for its possible RX 6000 video cards. The company does this in its own, custom Fortnitefolder, where users can enter the code ‘6000’ to see a reference to ‘something great’. This may refer to Big Navi.
The possible reference to the RX 6000 series was discovered by a streamer called MissGinaDarling. She posted an image of the report on Twitter. The vice president and general manager from AMD’s Radeon division congratulated the streamer then finds this easter egg.
The easter egg is located in the AMD Battle Arena–folder in Fortnite, which the company made in collaboration with MakaMakes, a Fortnite Creative-mud. There is a kind of terminal in this arena, where users can enter a four-digit code. When players enter the code ‘6000’ there, a message appears that ‘something big’ is coming to the ‘AMD Battle Arena’. With this, the company seems to be hinting at a possible RX 6000 series. The chip manufacturer also refers to its upcoming video cards as ‘Big Navi’. The current Navi-based video cards have been released in the RX 5000 series.
AMD has yet to disclose concrete specifications for its upcoming RDNA 2 graphics cards, although the company claimed in March that performance per watt will be improved by 50 percent over the current generation of Navi GPUs. At the same time, the chip maker has confirmed that its Big Navi graphics cards will be on the market in 2020, although no concrete release period has yet been indicated. In June, the chief financial officer from AMD, however, that the upcoming Big Navi graphics cards will be “ the first RDNA 2 products. ” This suggests that these video cards will come out earlier than the next-gen consoles, which also use the RDNA 2 architecture. Microsoft has previously confirmed that the Xbox Series X will hit the market in November.
