AMD promises Ryzen Mobile will get more graphics driver updates

AMD is partnering with OEMs to increase the number of graphics driver updates for Ryzen Mobile systems. From 2019, such systems should receive a driver update at least twice a year.

AMD does warn that the release of driver updates is ultimately up to the OEM, the manufacturer of systems with Ryzen Mobile chips. “We want to make it a goal for us and our OEM partners,” AMD said in a post on Reddit.

The manufacturers are responsible for the distribution of the upcoming updates, AMD emphasizes further. The company does not claim to be able to publish generic graphics drivers for APUs and notebook GPUs, because these are aimed at specific OEM platforms. Competitors Intel and Nvidia do, as users sign on Reddit. Many of them indicate that it is best to install generic drivers at your own risk.

AMD responds to complaints from users of Ryzen Mobile processors that they receive no or only very sporadic driver updates. For example, a user ‘celebrates’ that it has been more than a year since his HP laptop based on AMD’s Raven Ridge received an update for the graphics drivers.
