AMD may provide details on Zen 2 architecture next week
AMD will hold an investor meeting on Nov. 6, where it will provide new details about products. What the manufacturer will tell is not yet clear, but it may include information about the Zen 2 architecture.
The announcement of the Next Horizon event is on the AMD website. More than the date and name is not visible. It is the second time AMD has used the Horizon designation for such an event; the manufacturer also did that at the end of 2016, at the first demonstration of a Ryzen processor. That event at the time was called New Horizon.
If AMD releases information about Zen 2 on November 6, that doesn’t mean new processors are coming out anytime soon. At the earliest, that will happen sometime in 2019. AMD has previously indicated that it will release its Epyc 2 processors first; that will happen next year. The consumer processors at 7nm come after that.
Financial regulations in the US require AMD to provide advance notice of any presentation where significant information is disclosed. The fact that AMD has announced the Next Horizon event to investors indicates that important new information is on the way.
AMD previously mentioned the Horizon event when discussing its quarterly earnings. There, the processor manufacturer said the event will discuss “innovation of AMD products and technology” specifically designed for data centers. More details about Epyc 2 are likely to follow at the Next Horizon event as well.
