AMD introduces three Ryzen Pro 5000U laptop processors with Zen 3 cores

AMD has announced three Ryzen Pro 5000U laptop processors. The trio is equipped with Zen 3 cores and there are variants with 8, 6 and 4 cores. The processors for business laptops have extra security features and longer support.

With the Ryzen 5000U CPUs for consumer laptops, there are versions with the new Zen 3 cores, as well as variants with the older Zen 2 cores. The new range of Ryzen Pro 5000U processors for business laptops only includes versions with Zen 3 cores. The Ryzen 3 Pro 5450U quadcore also has Zen 3 cores. In the consumer versions, there is no quadcore with Zen 3 cores.

The Ryzen 7 Pro 5850U and Ryzen 5 Pro 5650U are similar in specs to the consumer 5800U and 5600U, but the business variants have extra features onboard to compete with Intel’s business vPro processors. For example, the Pro versions have full support for the Microsoft Secured core trustmark for Windows 10 and offer full encryption of the memory.

In addition, the business processors will receive longer support and AMD guarantees that the chips will be on sale for at least two years. AMD also says that there is stricter quality control with the Pro variants.

Various manufacturers are releasing business laptops with the Ryzen Pro 5000U processors. AMD cites the arrival of the HP EliteBook 845 G8, HP ProBook Aero 635 G2 and HP ProBook x360 435 G8 as an example. Lenovo comes with a ThinkPad T14S, ThinkBook 16P and ThinkBook 14S containing the new processors.
