AMD Introduces Ryzen Pro 3000 APUs for Business Laptops
AMD is coming with second-generation Pro variants of its Ryzen Mobile APUs. There will also be an Athlon Pro variant. The specifications are the same as the consumer versions, but the Pro versions have more security features and are supported for longer.
The three Ryzen Pro APUs and the Athlon Pro variant that AMD is announcing are the same chips as the mobile processors that AMD announced for consumers at the beginning of this year. It concerns the economical 15W variants, AMD does not yet have Pro versions of the 35W variants.
The number of cores, the GPU and the clock speeds of the laptop processors for the business market are therefore unchanged compared to the consumer processors, but AMD gives the Pro versions more security functions. Under the heading GuardMI, memory encryption has been added and a secure boot procedure is guaranteed. There is hardware support for rpm 2.0, Device Guard and Credential Guard.
Furthermore, AMD gives a longer warranty on the Pro variants; three years instead of one year. In addition, the manufacturer promises to keep the APUs available for at least two years. AMD also says that the Pro variants are made of ‘the best chips’. According to AMD, Lenovo and HP will soon come with premium laptops that are equipped with the new Ryzen Pro APUs.
