AMD introduces Opteron 6300 chips with 12 and 16 cores
AMD has announced new Opteron server chips in the 6300 series with 12 and 16 cores. It concerns two models with Piledriver cores and 99W TDPs. The processors have to find their way into enterprise systems.
The new models in the Opteron 6300 series are the 6370P and 6338P. The 6370P contains 16 cores, has a clock speed of 2GHz with Turbo Core to 2.5GHz and has a tpd of 99W. The 6338P is the model with 12 cores and this processor has a clock speed of 2.3GHz, with automatic boost to a maximum of 2.8GHz, while the TDP is also 99W.
Both chips have support for quadchannel-u/rddr3 up to ddr3-1600, according to AMD. The processors are especially suitable for workloads of enterprise systems. The starting prices of the Opteron 6370P and 6338P are $377 and $598, respectively.
Incidentally, these are processors with 16 and 12 cores that are divided over two dies. AMD is also working on a model with 16 cores on a single that, it was revealed recently, but when it comes out is unknown.
