AMD introduces A12 apu for business laptops
AMD has introduced a new laptop apu for business notebooks. The A12-8800B is the business version of the FX-8800P, which is based on the Carrizo architecture. The A12 will initially make its appearance in HP’s Elitebook series.
AMD equips the PRO A12-8800B with four ‘excavator’ cores, with a maximum turbo frequency of 3.4GHz, just like the FX-8800P. Compared to the previous generation of business APUs, there are two additional graphics compute cores available. The top model of the previous generation, the A10 Pro-7350B, still had six graphics compute cores, which is equivalent to 384 stream processors.
The total of the A12-8800B GPU thus comes to 512 stream processors, which tap a maximum of 800MHz, which is also identical to the FX-8800P, just like the configurable TDP from 12 to 35 watts. The Pro APUs do undergo better quality control and warranty than the regular AMD APUs, AMD promises. In any case, the company will supply the A12 APUs to HP, which will equip laptops in its Elitebook series with the new hardware.
