AMD, Intel and Microsoft are working together to optimize Ethernet standards
At the initiative of the Linux Foundation, several major tech companies are announcing a partnership called the Ultra Ethernet Consortium. The companies say they will coordinate developments to optimize Ethernet standards.
AMD, Arista, Broadcom, Cisco, Intel, Meta and Microsoft, among others, have joined the UEC, according to a statement. press release. The parties want to further develop Ethernet standards to function better in combination with applications of artificial intelligence, HPC and machine learning.
The consortium has shared some general goals to make unspecified Ethernet standards work more efficiently with specific workloads. This should be done, for example, by developing specifications, APIs and source code, specifically with certain applications as a starting point. ‘Software, storage, management and security constructs’ should also be developed to function better within the context of HPC and AI applications.
