AMD has discontinued StoreMI caching technology and is working on a replacement

AMD no longer offers its StoreMI software and has stopped supporting the caching technology introduced two years ago. The manufacturer says it is working on an alternative, which should be released sometime in the second quarter of this year.

AMD has announced via a product change advisory that StoreMI is no longer available for download since March 31. Users who have previously downloaded the software will still be able to use it, but there will be no more updates and AMD will no longer provide support. The manufacturer is now fully focused on a replacement ‘with a redesigned feature set’. Why AMD is discontinuing StoreMI and what the new features are of the upcoming alternative is not clear.

AMD for now refers users to Enmotus FuzeDrive as an alternative to StoreMI. That is paid software, on which AMD has based its StoreMI technology. Perhaps AMD is now working on its own variant that is not based on third-party software.

StoreMI was introduced in 2018 along with the Ryzen 2000 processors and the motherboards in the 400 series. The caching technology allows users to combine HDDs and SSDs to put frequently used data on the fastest storage. This is especially relevant for systems with a small SSD.
