AMD FidelityFX toolkit is available in part for Xbox Series X and S
Microsoft and AMD have made parts of the FidelityFX toolkit available for Xbox Series X and S. Game developers can now use various effects from the toolkit on consoles, making cross-platform development easier.
Contrast Adaptive Sharpening, Variable Shading and Denoiser are the first FidelityFX components to be made available for consoles. More parts of the toolkit should be available later for the Xbox Series X and S. AMD has set up an Xbox page on its GPU Open website with details about and examples of the various effects.
The FidelityFX effects have been added to the Game Development Kit for Xbox Series X and S. Those consoles have an RDNA 2 GPU, for which the FidelityFX toolkit was developed. Since 2019, that toolkit has been available to PC game developers, and according to AMD, there are more than 40 PC games that use it so far. For PCs, this works with Radeon RX 6000 video cards.
There is no mention of support for the PlayStation 5. That console also has an RDNA 2 GPU, but the arrival of FidelityFX to consoles is presented as a collaboration between Microsoft and AMD. Availability was announced at Microsoft’s Game Stack Live developer event.
