AMD will complete the acquisition of fpga manufacturer Xilinx ‘on or around’ February 14. The company confirms that it has all necessary approvals from the relevant market regulators. The Chinese authority was the last and gave its approval at the end of January.

With the exception of all remaining customary closing conditions, all conditions for the acquisition have been met, AMD writes. The company therefore expects to complete the acquisition on or around Monday. AMD announced in October 2020 that it plans to acquire Xilinx for $35 billion and expected to close the acquisition by the end of last year.

With the acquisition, AMD wants to grow in the data center market. Xilinx is the largest supplier of field-programmable gate arrays; programmable chips mainly used in data centers, communications networks, and industrial and scientific applications. The acquisition of Xilinx is AMD’s largest acquisition to date and will be financed by shares.

The takeover did require approval from market authorities. Taiwanese, South Korean and American authorities gave approval early last year, followed later by the European Commission and the United Kingdom. The Chinese market regulator gave its approval more than two weeks ago. There were some conditions, such as that AMD must continue to supply Xilinx products to China and must not discriminate against Chinese customers.
