Gamers have reported experiencing issues with some older DX9 games for several weeks after adopting the AMD 17.12.1 driver, but AMD says the issues with the Adrenaline driver are unlikely to be resolved.

An overview has been published on Reddit of DirectX9 titles that according to users cause problems in combination with the AMD 17.12.1 driver. The driver appeared in mid-December under the name Adrenaline. For now, it concerns the Command & Conquer titles Tiberium Wars, Kane’s Wrath, Red Alert 3, Red Alert 3 Uprising and Tiberian Twilight. In addition, it concerns Battle for Middle Earth 1 and 2 and The Witcher Enhanced Edition. From the topics on the AMD forum it appears that the games do not start after the update.

Commenting on the reports about The Witcher, AMD employee ray_m, technical support engineer, said the company probably won’t come up with a fix: “This title is from 2007, so we’re not likely to allocate valuable engineering resources to this issue, which is probably caused by outdated api modules.” When asked by forum members whether AMD has officially ended support for DX9 games, the company has not yet answered.

Update 17:59: Terry Makedon, AMD Software Strategy Director, responds on Twitter on media coverage. He contradicts the words of the AMD employee on the forum and says that a hotfix will solve the problems.
