AMD announces 4700S Desktop Kit with eight Zen 2 cores and 16GB of GDDR6 memory
AMD introduces its 4700S Desktop Kit. This kit consists of a motherboard with integrated Zen 2 CPU and 16GB GDDR6 memory. The chip may be based on the soc from the Xbox Series X and S, although this 4700S does not have an integrated GPU.
The AMD 4700S Desktop Kit recently appeared on AMD’s website. The company does not use the Ryzen brand name for this. Instead, the company simply calls this chip the “4700S.” The kit consists of a Mini-ITX motherboard with integrated Zen 2 soc. This chip has eight cores and sixteen threads, although the company does not mention clock speeds. The Desktop Kit does not use DDR4 memory. Instead, the soc comes with 8GB or 16GB of integrated GDDR6 memory. The company also supplies a CPU cooler.
It is possible that this chip is based on the soc from the Xbox Series X and S rumors around about a 4700S chip that would be based on the socs from these consoles. AMD did this earlier with a ‘Cato’ chip, which is based on the chip from the Xbox One. AMD has not published any images of the 4700S chip, but a diagram instead the manual shows that the shape of the soc seems to match that of the Xbox Series consoles.

The specifications also match. For example, the current-gen Xbox consoles also have eight Zen 2 cores with sixteen threads and a maximum of 16GB of GDDR6 memory. However, the 4700S chip does not have an integrated RDNA2 GPU. That suggests that the 4700S is an Xbox chip with a defective GPU.
The 4700S Desktop Kit also has a PCIe x16 slot for a separate GPU. It supports limited signal, of PCIe 2.0 x4. Not all video cards will therefore work with this kit. AMD lists a list of supported GPUs, which includes Radeon RX 500 video cards and the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060.
The kit does not have an M.2 slot for SSDs, but it does have two SATA 3 connections. The motherboard also has two USB 2.0 connectors, three USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 connector, all of type A. The system also has an RJ45 connector for gigabit Ethernet and a Realtek ALC897 audio chip with three 3.5mm jacks.
It is not yet known what the AMD 4700S Desktop Kit will cost. Tech website VideoCardz writes that the kit may go on sale from next week.
