AMD and ATI veteran Chris Hook leaves for Intel
Chris Hook, until recently Senior Director of Global Product Marketing at AMD, will join Intel. At Intel, he will focus on the marketing of the high-end GPUs that former AMD colleague Raja Koduri is working on.
Hook announced his move to Intel in a statement on Facebook, quoting Tom’s Hardware, among others. He reports that he wants to be part of Intel’s ‘journey’ to develop a high-end separate GPU. Hook will outline the marketing strategy for visual technologies and the upcoming GPU at Intel.
With the arrival of Hook, Intel is once again adding a familiar AMD face to its ranks. It was announced last week that Intel hired chip designer Jim Keller for a leadership role. Keller, whose credits include AMD Zen architecture, will become senior vice president of the silicon engineering division.
Raja Koduri started working at Intel last year. Koduri was responsible for designing Radeon GPUs at AMD and he now leads the development of high-end GPUs at Intel. Intel is targeting broad application of the graphics chips, not only for use in PCs but also in data centers, where Nvidia is gaining market share.
Hook joined ATI in 2001 and has since held various positions, later including marketing Radeon, Radeon Pro, and Ryzen products at AMD. He worked closely with Raja Koduri, and when Hook announced his departure from AMD earlier this month, it was already speculated that he was leaving for Intel.
