Amazon will stop cloud storage service Drive from 2024
Amazon is shutting down its Drive cloud storage service. The company started this in 2011, but from the end of next year the service can no longer be used. Storage of photos and videos is automatically migrated to Amazon Photos.
Beginning January 31, 2023, users will no longer be able to upload photos, videos, or other files to Amazon Drive. After December 31, 2023, users will no longer be able to access their files, Amazon writes in an FAQ. The shutdown applies to Drive customers from all over the world. Photos and videos stored in Amazon Drive are now migrated by default to Amazon Photos, where Prime customers have unlimited storage for photos.
Amazon started Drive in 2011 as a general purpose cloud storage service. The company now says it wants to “focus fully on Amazon Photos to give customers a separate solution for photo and video storage.” The company does not say what plans it has for the Photos app in the future.
