Amazon stops selling Fire Phone

Now that the total worldwide stock of Amazon’s Fire Phone has sold out, the curtain seems to be falling for the Fire Phone. At the end of August, it already leaked that many layoffs had occurred at the Fire Phone division at Amazon’s hardware development center Lab126.

GeekWire writes this after the discovery that both the 32GB and 64GB versions are listed as ‘currently unavailable’ on Amazon’s website in the United States. When a product is temporarily out of stock, but does come back, Amazon always says ‘temporarily out of stock’. In a report from The Wall Street Journal, “contacts close to the source” also confirmed that Amazon fired many engineers working at Lab126 in the weeks leading up to Aug. 26.

It therefore seems unlikely that Amazon will come up with a phone again in the near future, especially because there are no rumors about a new smartphone from the company, which is the case with Amazon Fire TV. The TV box has also been unavailable for several weeks, but various media are already reporting that a new TV streaming device is coming soon.

The 3D interface with face tracking and extensive integration with Amazon’s own services, such as a camera function that allows users to let the software recognize objects and then buy them via Amazon, turned out not to be enough to entice enough potential buyers to get their hands on the gem.
