Amazon stops selling current Fire TV set-top box
Amazon has stopped selling its current Fire TV set-top box. The device is rumored to receive a successor soon. The current set-top box is currently unavailable, something that has not happened before.
Amazon states on the product page that it doesn’t know when the Fire TV will be back in stock. The Fire TV Stick, an HDMI dongle, is still for sale. The discontinuation of the set-top box is fueling rumors of an upcoming successor with the buttons of an Echo Dot speaker on the housing.
An image and info about Amazon’s new TV products came out earlier this week. An image shows that the device has some physical buttons on the top. The device has support for infrared control, so that the television can also be operated.
The device would also support the display of 4k images at up to 60 fps, as well as HDR playback. In addition, Amazon would come with a Fire TV device, which will probably have to compete with the Google Chromecast Ultra. This dongle can be connected to a TV via an HDMI connection, also supports HDR playback and can play 4K videos at up to 60fps. This media player should be an addition to the existing Amazon Fire TV Stick.
