From Monday, Amazon will be selling products made with a 3D printer in a separate shop. In the brand new web store, the American online department store already offers two hundred products that can be adjusted as desired.

Amazon offers with the webshop from forty dollars, among other things, printed jewelry, decoration for the home, toys and tech accessories. Customers can, if they wish, further customize the product with predefined templates. For example, a different type of material can be chosen. The color, size and style of the product can also be adjusted. In addition, customers can add personal texts and images.

With the print products, Amazon says it wants to respond to the trend to personalize objects, says sales director Petra Schindler-Carter. “The web store allows us to allow sellers, designers and manufacturers to reach millions of customers, while providing customers with a fun and creative experience to customize a potentially infinite number of products.” Amazon also says that designers who want to offer their 3D designs can sign up for the store.

For the printing of the personalized products, Amazon works together with companies that have been offering the same service for some time, such as the French Sculpteo and the American 3DLT. According to those companies, producing printed articles is especially cheaper; after all, it is not necessary to make and sell countless products in order to recoup previous investments.
